Find a reputable Mountain bike shop

Finding a reputable mountain bike shop can prove to be more of a challenge than some new cyclists may think. With large retailers carrying a wide variety of bikes, small independently owned bike shops are becoming less and less popular. However, local bike shops are often the best place to find high quality bikes from trusted brands. They are also the best place to receive accurate advice and thorough, dependable maintenance. If you are one of the many cyclists who prefer the attention and customer service that only small shops provide, here are some important tips to consider;

Word of mouth is always wise: When searching for any type of service word of mouth is always the best way to find what you are looking for and a mountain bike shop is not an exception. If you are trying to find a shop which has trustworthy and knowledgeable staff, a wide variety of bikes and capable bike specialists then asking around town may be the best way to find it. Try visiting a local bike park, track or trail and ask other cyclists where they take their bike for maintenance and tune ups, or ask if they know of any great places to purchase a high-end mountain bike. Most cyclists will have a shop they use regularly, and you may even have the opportunity to receive discounts if you are a referral!

Cycle tour companies: This is a great place to go if you already own a bike and are searching for a mountain bike shop to repair your bike or customize your components. There are many bike rental companies which rent mountain bikes out to hikers and trail riders around the world. These rental companies will often use the same shop for all of their repairs and sizing needs. Most rental staff members will happily send you to their preferred shop in hopes of you returning to rent in the future.

Cycling organizations: Cycling organizations are a great place to source information and advice. These are the people who are responsible for arranging local races, dirt jump competitions and even community trail rides. These knowledgeable and trusted specialists will no doubt be able to send you to a reputable mountain bike shop. They may also be able to provide you with advice regarding your own bike maintenance and offer friendly advice about which type of bike to purchase.
